Daisy Johnson is the founder and director of the Rescue Community Center. She was called by God to quit her job and by faith start helping the poor and disadvantaged. She had few assets of her own but depended on God and His people for donations and funds. Her ministry is now into its 30th year of operation. Starting from a small space at her church the ministry has grown into an independent charity with its own building at 725 Whittier Street in Avondale since 1990. Mrs. Johnson has received numerous awards and recognition for her tireless work.
Rescue Community Center is a private, faith-based Christian charity. The budget is met by donations from churches and individuals. All staff are volunteers, no salaries are paid and no government funds have ever been used. The ministry is incorporated.
The center is open three days per week from 10AM to 4PM and serves 150 people each week with groceries, clothing, furniture, and counseling. The center is located in Avondale, one of the poorest communities in Cincinnati. Cincinnati has one of the highest poverty rates in the nation and the people helped are often in desperate need.
